As the country continues to deal with the current opioid epidemic, studies show a majority of misused and abused prescription drugs are obtained from the family medicine cabinet.The Drug Enforcement AgencySt. Louis Division has teamed up with more than 400 local and state law enforcement agencies to provide people a free, easy and anonymous way to get rid of their expired, unused and unwanted prescription medications.Several area agencies will be participating in the National Drug Take Back this year and most will collect year round.Park Hills Lt. Doug Bowles said they will be collecting at the Park Hills Police Department from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, but will also accept unwanted medications year round.Farmington Police Chief Rick Baker said they are also participating, but they do participate year round by accepting unwanted medication at any time.We are always participating in the drug take back, we are one of the pickup locations, said Baker. If anyone has anything they want to bring to us bring it to the police department and we will take care of it for them.Baker stressed they wont take needles or liquids, but will accept pills and capsules.Desloge Police Chief James Bullock said they take prescription drugs year round. Departments also don’t accept needles, inhalers or illicit drugs.
