It’s normal to lose a little hair after pregnancy.
Dr. Mohit Srivastava, who provides among the leading hair transplants from Surat, suggests that now is the chance to reboot your hair care habit and teach your tresses healthy hair habits to turn on the growth switch.
What exactly is postpartum hair loss?
There is an improvement in the levels of hormones like progesterone, estrogen, and prolactin, and enhanced blood circulation throughout pregnancy. This prolongs the hair cycle’s growing phase or anagen phase, and fewer hairs are shed as a result.
Hormones return to normal soon after delivery, and many follicles cycle into the shedding phase, or telogen phase, at the same time.
“Postpartum hair fall,” according to Dr. Mohit Srivastava, the founder of Hair N Images Hair Transplant Centre in Surat, peaks around four months after delivery.
According to Dr. Mohit Srivastava, board-certified dermatologist MD, FAAD, post-delivery hair loss is common and is often caused by a lack of vitamin B12 and D3.
The condition is reversible once you consult a doctor and start taking supplements.
“There is also a physiological increase in thyroid-stimulating hormone or hyperthyroidism,” Dr. Mohit Srivastava adds, “which is responsible for hair loss.”
The good news is that this excessive shedding will only last a short time. “By the birthday of their child, most women’s hair returns to its normal fullness. Dr. Mohit Srivastava adds, “Several women recover to normal fullness even earlier.”
“If your hair does not return to its normal fullness after a year, you should consult a dermatologist because something else could be causing it to fall out.”Â
People lose hair for a variety of reasons, and a precise diagnosis is critical for effective treatment,” he warns.
Why and how does the texture of your hair change after delivery?
Hair becomes healthier, stronger, and smoother during pregnancy due to increased estrogen and blood flow to the hair follicles. During pregnancy, some women claim that their hair went from curly to straight.
“It’s important to remember that any texture change during pregnancy is only temporary, and hair reverts to its original state as estrogen levels drop postpartum,” Dr. Mohit Srivastava explains.
Focus on your overall health to keep your hormones in check. The best way to ensure that your body gets all of the nutrients it requires is to include a variety of fruits, vegetables, and healthy proteins in your diet.
“Incorporate zinc-rich foods like spinach, broccoli, chia seeds, flax seeds, and nuts into your diet. Include enough protein, vitamin A, and vitamin E in your diet.Â
Dr. Mohit Srivastava adds that supplements containing multivitamins, minerals, and herbs like ashwagandha can help hair health.
For a quick recovery, follow these healthy hair habits.
Though postpartum hair loss is expected, the hair usually grows back on its own.
Still, according to Dr. Mohit Srivastava, you can speed up the process by taking advantage of the opportunity to develop healthy hair habits.
He adds, “Avoid dry shampoos because many of them contain synthetic fragrances that irritate the scalp and cause itching.” Reduce the number of times you shampoo your hair. Keep your hair down to prevent styling damage.
“Avoid shampoos that carry substantial conditioners that can pull down the hair and give it a limp appearance,” Dr. Mohit Srivastava advises.
Apply conditioner only to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair to avoid a lifeless mass of flat strands. If you want a fuller scalp, Dr. Mohit Srivastava suggests using a conditioner formed for nice hair.
“These have lighter formulas that won’t weigh hair down. “Avoid ‘intensive conditioners,’ as they are too heavy and will make your hair look limp,” he advises.
Last but not least, take a few deep breaths and set aside some time for yourself to unwind!
