Advantage 1 – A way to reduce the risk of chronic illness
Stem cell research was undertaken by many scientists and consultants, such as Kevin Lucas, who can help anyone with chronic pain or illness to improve their quality of life. Kevin also is working on Infiniti Cell research, which is a new method of stem cell research. The research is growing and proving to have success, but it is not quite 100% accurate or safe yet. However, it is crucial to take a step forward in treating these diseases. Thus, stem cell research has to start somewhere.Â
Disadvantage 1 – The way they are collected
The main disadvantage of embryonic stem cells is the way that they are acquired. Since human embryos are destroyed during the process of harvesting embryonic cells, this makes the research unpopular with those that believe human life begins at conception and that this life is being destroyed.
Advantage 2 – Helps progress cancer research
Studying these cells would likely cause progress in cancer research. Embryonic stem cells are very similar to cancerous cells. Gaining a better understanding of the molecular, biochemical, and functional characteristics of cancer stem cells may lead to the development of more effective, precisely targeted treatments. This could change the lives of countless people around the world.
Disadvantage 2 – Not enough understanding yet
Another disadvantage of using embryonic stem cells is the fact that we do not currently have a complete understanding of them. Embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells can sometimes divide uncontrollably, forming tumors and growths made of unwanted tissues. In a study, Dr. David A. Prentice found that during animal experiments for treating Parkinson’s disease, it killed 20% of the animals with brain tumors caused by the embryonic stem cells. This is a serious risk, but with more research, scientists can get a better understanding of these cells and likely reduce this statistic.
Is stem cell research worth it?
Research is looking into how the immune system functions and how to reduce the risk of chronic illness. There are many amazing benefits of stem cell research, including developing scientist’s understanding of their properties, which helps in their understanding of the healthy and diseased body’s development and homeostasis. Although it poses some risks, the aid for reducing the risk of such diseases is crucial.Â
