The appearance of facial wrinkles is one of the first signs of aging. And, it is one sign many people dread the most. It’s this fear, perhaps, that made Botox injections to top the minimally invasive procedure in 2018, with over 7 million times performed.
Many dermatologists and medical offices are starting to offer Botox to patients, both for aesthetic reasons (such as reducing the signs of aging) and for medical purposes, such as treating muscular issues. But, to be properly licensed to perform this procedure, there are numerous Botox training for physicians offered in the industry. You also need to understand what Botox is and how it works.
What is Botox?
Made from a type of bacteria known as botulinum toxin, Botox helps smooth out wrinkles on the face when injected into muscles throughout. Though it is most frequently used on the face, Botox injections can be done all over the body.
Botox works by paralyzing the muscle it is injected into. This, in turn, reduces the appearance of wrinkles. However, it can take anywhere from one to three days for patients to see the full results.
Botox has many uses, beyond cosmetic improvements
Though botox for face is most commonly known as a way to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, helping people look younger, that is not the only use of it. Botox also treats medical conditions such as:
- Excessive sweating
- Severe neck spasms
- Shoulder spasms
- Chronic migraines
- Crossed eyes, and more
How to become certified
Now that you know about Botox and its uses, you may think it is something that will benefit your patients. To be able to administer this popular drug, however, you must take Botox training for physicians to get certified.
First, you will need to provide proof of your license to practice medicine. Nurses and Physician’s Assistants are usually able to attend injection classes but should check their state laws. Don’t hesitate to contact your trainer if you have questions about your status and whether or not you can perform Botox.
Second, sign up for your Botox training class and attend it. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and participate as that is the best way to learn.
Lastly, once you finish your class, you will receive your certification. Once you have this, you can provide this service to your patients. Be sure to keep on doing additional learnings to stay current on your certification down the road.
Choosing the right course
Many classes offer Botox training for physicians out there. You need to choose the right one. Before signing up for your class, do a little research.
- Make sure they are accredited and have a good reputation in the industry
- Get to know the instructor. Look at their training and experience to confirm they are qualified to teach this course.
- Look at the location of the classes. Botox training should be done in a medical facility, not in a salon or beauty clinic.
- Check the number of classes. Do they only have one class at one time available? Are you able to find dates of other opportunities to learn? If not, it may be a scam.
- Will there be hands-on training? Make sure you will have a chance to practice what you learn so you will feel confident when you start to administer injections for your patients.
